Diet is obviously is what you eat, diets are different kinds of eating programs, and dieting is a eating program you have adopted. Yes quite a mouth full. Yes I intended to pun:) I am one of those people that generally has not dieted in my life…until I hit an age where my metabolism slowed way down and I became carbohydrate sensitive. This was all new territory for me and I learned a few things that may be helpful. I have given this considerable thought and strategy for myself.
Here is what I came up with. Dieting as form of denial of food for me does not work, it actually has the exact opposite effect on me. I would say well I have to cut out donuts..but I love donuts…well next week…so today I better eat two as I will not be eating them any more. Kind of bad to worse. Next was just cut all my meals in half. That worked a little bit, but I was hungry all of the time, and found myself at 10pm rooting around because my stomach was growling. Next I went on the caveman diet and it worked. This brought me to my sensitivity to carbs. Yes the evil little things called carbs. It was unlocking the safe and finding gold. Now, it is not easily sustainable because we are bombarded with carbs everywhere and in everything. Again it was then back to denial of a food which does not WORK!
What I did was a hybrid of the caveman diet and ultra low carbs. I am not hungry as I eat plenty of protein, and I do not eat carbs, I just don’t eat that many everyday. It is a choice and I choose to not eat as many carbs. I lost 25 easy….and now the next 25 need to be complimented with a bit of exercise. Not easy but it is necessary. My suggestion is do not exercise, find activity that you like to do well enough, bike, walk, jog, explore, something that you can do easily, you do not need to go somewhere to do but can do anywhere and easily. Don’t beat your self up if you don’t do it one day, and don’t run a deficit, like I missed today I will do double tomorrow. This does not work, it is a choice and you can choose not to..your a grown up. With this grown up strategy, it may work for you. Let me know, I hope this helps.
One last thing, “The Why”. Why do this? For me it was a couple of things. First my pants were getting tight and I did not want to wear the next size up, my ego would not allow. The next reason is that my general health is so closely tied to my weight (blood pressure etc..) and healthcare is a mess. Doctors charges are out of control, co-pays, and deductibles. I would rather go on vacation than pay doctor bills. Bottom line is that it is a choice. Make the choice on your terms though and it is much easier to be successful.
