Often when we talk about you are what you eat, we are talking healthy diet of food only. There are many kinds of healthy diets that unlock the weight and well being combination. So here are the facts we will agree to deal with during this discussion. The food we eat is less than it was 60 years ago. The reason being is that our farming and cultivation techniques are different, modified genetically and lastly that our soil is over grown, meaning it has been over farmed in the name of profit. These are well established and taken as more or less fact.
Our lives have become more complicated with work, family, and finances. We use the term “Quality Time”. Do you think your grandparents even thought of this term?
Our soul/faith/respect for others…I’m not going to go into this as it is a total mixed bag. As always there are great people that have hearts of gold and others that have a different agenda. One thing that seems to be real is that in general we have become more aggressive. Just and observation, nothing scientific, no real way to prove it, yet it is a feeling I have.
So with food not being what it was before, life is more complicated, and a shift in respect for one another we have a toxic combination. This is not really a new idea and every time has had this kind of growing pains. So what can we do? One thing for sure is we can cut down on our processed foods, lower our sugar and salt intake, create designated down time, and consider and develop what is valuable to you.
Lastly, you can exercise even if it is just a little exercise, you decide what you can handle. Any exercise you do is absolutely in the plus column. Even if it is just taking the stairs versus the elevator..it is something. You can subsidize your diet with vitamins. This is tricky as this market is not regulated. A vitamin that you get at a big box store can have unpredictable value to you. Pharmaceutical grade vitamins are more expensive but they are much more absorbent into your system. Not all vitamins are created equally, and taking a bunch of low quality vitamins can be dangerous. There is no substitute for quality. For your soul, pretty easy, just before you go to bed at night smile and think of the best thing that ever happened to you, in the morning smile again and think of the best thing that could happen during your day.
